On 27th February, 2018, we – Business Coalition for Gender Equality (BCGE) – participated as a panel discussion at AVPN (Asian Venture Philanthropy Network) Social Impact Forum at Yangon. Alongside with our alliance; IFC – International Finance Cooperation and IW – Investing in Women; the session discussed about the concept of workplace gender equality not as a ‘nice to have’ or CSR initiative, but as a business and economic imperative as well as explored regarding bias, stereotypes, and attitudes upon the status quo of Myanmar and ideas for pushing workplace gender equality forward.
Furthermore, the panel discussed the way leading businesses around the world are doing through global standards and certification systems such as EDGE (Economic Dividends for Gender Equality). Moreover, the panellist were discussed about gender equality aspects in Myanmar and why it is important to everyone’s business and business coalition as well as empirical steps which companies need to address on workplace gender equality.
